Curing Process
Curing Process is the controlled drying, sweating, and conditioning of vanilla beans after harvest. Proper curing develops aroma, flavor, and color while reducing moisture to a stable level that limits mold and spoilage. The process is essential for producing export-grade vanilla.
Export Compliance
Export Compliance is the set of laws, regulations, permits, and documentation requirements that govern goods leaving a country. In practice, export compliance helps exporters meet customs rules, sanctions, product controls, and labeling requirements before shipment.
FDA
FDA is the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a federal agency that regulates foods, drugs, medical devices, cosmetics, and Other products. In trade and exporting, FDA requirements often affect product safety, labeling, and import clearance for goods entering the United States.
FDA Regulations
FDA Regulations are U.S. rules that govern foods, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, and Other products under the Food and Drug Administration. In trade and exporting, FDA compliance often requires correct labeling, safe handling, and recordkeeping before products can enter the U.S. market.
FOB (Free on Board)
FOB (Free On Board) is a shipping term that names the point when a seller delivers goods onto a vessel and the buyer takes responsibility for freight, insurance, and risk. In export trade, the seller’s duty normally ends once the goods pass the ship’s rail or loading point.
Fermentation
Fermentation is a natural chemical process in which microorganisms or enzymes break down sugars in plant material or food. In vanilla processing, fermentation helps develop aroma, color, and flavor compounds that are later refined during curing.
Flavorsome Vanillin
Flavorsome Vanillin is vanillin described by a richer aroma and fuller flavor impression than a plain sweet vanilla note. Food makers use the term for vanilla flavor ingredients that add warmth, depth, and a rounded sensory profile in dairy, confectionery, beverages, and baked goods.
Free on Board
Free On Board is an Incoterm that means the seller delivers goods on board the vessel named by the buyer at the named port of shipment. The buyer takes risk and transport costs after loading, while the seller handles export clearance and loading expenses.
Gourmet Grade
Gourmet Grade is a quality classification for vanilla beans selected for strong aroma, supple texture, and careful curing. It is typically used for premium culinary applications where appearance, flavor intensity, and uniformity matter more than extract yield.
HACCP
HACCP is a food safety system that identifies, evaluates, and controls hazards during food production and handling. It is used to prevent biological, chemical, and physical risks by setting critical control points and monitoring steps in processes such as cleaning, processing, storage, and transport.
HACCP Certification
HACCP Certification is formal confirmation that a food safety system follows Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point principles. It is used to identify hazards, set control steps, and keep food processing under documented checks, which is common in export supply chains and regulated food production.
High Moisture
High Moisture is a condition in which vanilla beans retain more water than is preferred for stable curing or storage. Higher moisture can make beans softer and more likely to mold, so buyers often define moisture limits to protect quality and shelf life.
ISO 22000
ISO 22000 is an international standard for food safety management systems that helps organizations identify and control food safety hazards across the supply chain. It is used by producers, processors, and exporters to show consistent food safety controls and legal compliance.
ISO Certification
ISO Certification is formal recognition that an organization meets requirements from an International Organization for Standardization management system standard. A certified body usually audits documented processes, records, and controls to confirm consistency, traceability, and continual improvement in a specific business area.
Kilos
Kilos is a weight unit equal to one kilogram and is used to measure goods, especially agricultural and trade commodities. In export documents and pricing, kilos provide a standard way to record mass so buyers and sellers can compare quantities accurately.
Moisture Content
Moisture Content is the amount of water present in a material, usually expressed as a proportion of its total weight. In vanilla beans, moisture content affects texture, storage stability, and risk of mold or spoilage during handling and export.
Organic Certification
Organic Certification is a formal third-party verification that a product or farm follows approved organic standards for soil care, pest control, processing, and recordkeeping. Food and agricultural goods often use organic certification to show compliance with rules that limit synthetic inputs and require traceable production practices.
Packing List
Packing List is a shipping document that lists the contents of each package in a shipment. It usually includes item names, quantities, package counts, weights, and dimensions, helping customs officers, freight carriers, and buyers check goods against the order and prepare for handling.
Polyphenols
Polyphenols are natural plant compounds that act as antioxidants and help protect plants from stress. In foods and botanicals, they are studied for flavor, color, and potential health effects, but levels vary by plant type, growing conditions, and processing.
Post-Harvest Handling
Post-Harvest Handling is the set of steps used after crop collection to sort, clean, cure, dry, pack, and store farm goods safely. In vanilla and Other perishables, careful handling limits mold, damage, and flavor loss before export or sale.
Quality Control
Quality Control is a process for checking products or services against set standards and finding defects before release. In vanilla export, quality control commonly covers moisture, aroma, appearance, and cleanliness so buyers receive goods that meet contract requirements and food safety expectations.
Residual Moisture
Residual Moisture is the water that remains in a material after drying, draining, or processing. In vanilla beans, residual moisture affects texture, flexibility, storage stability, and the risk of mold or overdrying during handling and shipment.
SGS Inspection
SGS Inspection is an independent third-party inspection service that checks goods, documents, or facilities against agreed standards, contracts, or import rules. In vanilla trade, buyers and sellers often use SGS Inspection to verify quality, quantity, packaging, and shipping condition before goods move or payment is released.
Sourcing Traceability
Sourcing Traceability is the documented ability to follow a product, ingredient, or material back through each stage of supply. In vanilla trade, it helps verify origin, handling, and transfer records so buyers can assess compliance, authenticity, and risk.
Splitting
Splitting is the natural opening of a vanilla bean along its length, often caused by ripening, drying, or handling stress. In grading and export, splitting is a visible defect because it can affect appearance and moisture control, even when aroma and flavor remain strong.
Storage Conditions
Storage Conditions means the temperature, humidity, light, and handling rules used to keep a product safe and stable during storage. For vanilla, proper storage helps preserve aroma, moisture balance, and quality until shipment or use.
Sun Drying
Sun Drying is a natural drying method that uses direct sunlight and open air to remove moisture from agricultural products, especially crops such as vanilla beans. The process depends on weather, airflow, and careful turning to reduce spoilage while preserving flavor and aroma.
Tare Weight
Tare Weight is the weight of packaging, container, or pallet removed from the gross weight of a shipment. In trade and logistics, tare weight helps determine the net weight of the goods, which is the amount actually being bought, sold, or inspected.
Vacuum Packaging
Vacuum Packaging is a sealing method that removes air from a package before closure to slow oxidation, limit moisture exchange, and reduce exposure to insects and mold. It is widely used for foods and dry goods that need longer shelf life and stable storage during transport.
Vanilla Beans
Vanilla Beans are cured seed pods from orchids in the Vanilla genus, used as a natural flavoring in food, beverages, and fragrance products. High quality beans are flexible, dark, and aromatic, and they are valued for their complex flavor compounds and visible seed content.
Vanillin
Vanillin is the main flavor compound that gives natural vanilla its familiar sweet, creamy aroma. It occurs naturally in vanilla beans and is also made synthetically for use in foods, drinks, fragrances, and pharmaceuticals.
